I’m not sure this image qualifies for the bit about everyday places (it’s not everyday you find yourself at an orchid farm in Central America!), but it is, without a doubt, a face in the center of a Dracula Orchid found at Finca Dracula, a private farm near Volcan Baru in Panama. Finca Dracula is home to the largest private collection of orchids in Latin America, making it one of the largest collections in the world with over 2,200 species of orchids.
On this particular trip to the farm in Cerro Punta, changes were under way and we were unable to walk freely through the orchid enclosures as we have done in previous years. The young lady who was setting up the new exhibit very kindly accommodated me, allowing me to take a few photos. There are several different orchids in the Dracula Family, many of them featuring quirky little faces. As the landscaper moved orchids about, she shared her growing enthusiasm and passion about some of the orchids and held this particular Dracula Orchid in place while I quickly took the shot.
